Prompters
We knew we needed some way to give you the lyrics, and we certainly didn't want to flip open a book. We also didn't want to use a regular karaoke machine, since that would marry us to a time code. So we built our own prompter system where the music drives the computer — not the other way around. This means the singer doesn't get a 'bouncing ball' (the lyrics won't change color when you're supposed to sing), but don't worry, if you miss a line, we'll come back for you. Should you need cues, we'll be there to guide you every step of the way.
kband karaoke band prompter As we play through the song, we will be paging through the lyrics for you. Until we reach the last page, the number of pages remaining will display in the bottom corner of the screen, along with kband karaoke band keep going the arrow indicating there are more pages (see example).
Note: in the example the parts are color-coded to distinguish between two separate singers. Typically a song has just one singer, and most songs will display the lyrics in white.

Requests
You probably won't see the prompter unless you request to sing, so we also built something to automate your requests. Prior to each gig (not sure how much prior), we will open the queue for that gig, and you can submit your requests to sing right here on this site. kband karaoke band queue

Simply click on any song in the list, and you will have the option to add that song to the queue. If you are a registered user (and logged in), the requests will be made per your user. Another bonus to registering: each time you sing, your performance will be stored here with your user — any images or audio/video clips of the performance can be uploaded for later viewing & listening pleasure. Of course, if you are not logged in, you can still request to sing. When you click the link to add the song to the queue, a prompt will display so that you can enter your name. If you don't have a phone, that's ok, too — someone will be there to take your manual requests.

Obviously we cannot guarantee that every (or any) place we play will have access to the inter-webs. That said, we still wanted a way for you to make requests to sing while you're at the gig. Close to the start of the gig, we will stop taking requests on the 'live' site. We will take whatever is in the queue at that time to the venue with us, where we will setup our own local network so you can browse our 'local' site (and make requests to sing) directly from your supported handheld device. More information about how to connect to that network can be found here.

Roll the Dice
Oh, and there is another way to choose which song to sing... When there is an open queue, a link will be available on the main page of the site where you can request to sing a random song. This works just like the link on any song (if you are not logged in, a prompt will be provided for your name). Be careful! This WILL put a request in the queue for you — for whatever song it chooses.
